Having come to the end of my choreography this blog post will reflect on the process so far. Since my last post I have finished my last section of choreography and have taken a small influence from the ballet world. A manege is a balletic term meaning circular, and describes when a dancer takes a circular path around the stage. I wanted to apply theist contemporary using different levels while keeping on the circular track. Ballet performed at the highest level is a form of complete body mastery, and I wanted to suggest that robotics in the future could emulate this full body mastery to achieve the potential A.I takeover suggested in conspiracy theories.
I have also pieced together the music. The pieces now fit together nicely and I have edited out long sections of repeated music as they did not fit with my idea of growth and development of robotics and I felt that they only slowed this rate of progression. Following these edits to the music I feel although the piece as a whole flows as well as I could have hoped. The chronology of events ties in well to the progression of the music and lyrics
While working with a peer on a section of choreography they helped keep me from falling into the trap of unintentional repetition, where the mind slips into its preferred manner of moving and continues to repeat similar movements. Staying away from this and using repetition purposefully keeps the audience from making assumptions and getting too comfortable. While comfort and predictability can be used to highlight a shock that is yet to come I feel that is not required in my piece as I only wish to intrigue my audience, and potentially encourage them to do their own research into the subject.
In order to meet learning objective one I have researched and watched work and rehearsal footage of Birmingham based choreographer Rosie Kay taking inspiration for the structure of my piece from one of her works has led me to having three distinct sections with differing topics, all of which come under the umbrella term A.I. My review and analysis of her works MK Ultra and 5 soldiers covers learning objective two. I have compared the two works and suggested how they differ in appearance but share similar qualities when you compare the use of music and the contrasting styles of movement in each piece. This is something I have also taken on board as inspiration as I have created three different pieces to three different pieces of music to create a selection of different styles of movement. Finally my solo performance will be fully realised once the assessment is complete and an audience has witnessed my work for the first time. I hope that my themes are relayed as I imagine them in my own head, and I feel that as long as the concept of each piece is firmly in the forefront of my mind I will achieve this.
